See if you may be eligible
Properties must be in the city limits of:
- St. Paul
Select the area in which you're looking to buy a home below to see the maximum income limits eligible for this program.* If more than one person will be on the mortgage, the total of your combined incomes must be within the limit.
You must be approved for a mortgage by a NeighborhoodLIFT program-approved lender before applying for NeighborhoodLIFT down payment assistance. Your new home must be your only home. If you currently own a home, it must be sold prior to closing.
Homebuyer Education Requirement
In order to receive down payment assistance, you must complete homebuyer education with NeighborWorks Home Partners or a HUD-approved homebuyer education provider. A list of providers can be found here.
The program is only for owner-occupied primary residences. Most property types are eligible for down payment assistance.
You must be purchasing one of the following types of properties:
- Single family (attached or detached)
- 2 to 4 units
- Planned unit developments
- Land trusts
- Manufactured home that meets your mortgage lender's requirements
Mortgage Loan Eligibility
Eligible mortgage loans must be fixed rate and scheduled to be paid off within 30 years.
Ineligible mortgage loans include:
- Adjustable-rate mortgages
- Interest-only loans
- Loans with a balloon payment
- Negative amortization
- Terms exceeding 30 years (except USDA 502-direct)

Take homebuyer education
To qualify for NeighborhoodLIFT down payment assistance, complete a homebuyer education program from a HUD-approved provider.
Get preapproved for a mortgage
There are several ways to get preapproved:

Request down payment assistance
Once you've completed the education and preapproval process, you can request approval for NeighborhoodLIFT down payment assistance.
Complete the process
After you've received your down payment assistance reservation letter, it's time to find your home.
You have 90 days to sign a purchase agreement on a home
Once you find a home, finalize your mortgage approval with the help of your lending representative
Work with your lender to complete the mortgage process and coordinate with NeighborWorks Home Partners
